after a 4am start, a 205km/h train ride, a 40 minute delay, an extended flight time, the longest line for train tickets i have ever seen and about 30 minutes walking to get out of one of the most amazingly complicated metro stations ever, we´ve arrived safely in paris. we arrived at the apartment at about 12, all told around an hour later than we had expected.
our host christophe has a very nice little apartment, which seems to be central to pretty much everything. more shops and restaurants than i can remember seeing anywhere, even in new york. one small complaint; 5 floors, no elevator.
first impressions so far, i can understand why everyone raves about the place. it´s got a great atmosphere, and is beautiful to look at, even if the weather is a bit gloomy like early this afternoon. once the sun started shining later in the day, it was even more attractive. i can see why people don´t like the smell. it doesn´t exactly ´stink´ as i´ve heard people say, but as soon as we surfaced from that metro station, there was a very distinct smell about the place. by the end of tomorrow, i probably won´t even notice it.
we have heaps to do and see, and i´m betting we won´t get to half of it, but honestly, i don´t really care. i´m just enjoying being in town.

i’m not even sure why i’m linking to this, since 99% of you won’t be able to read it (hell, i can’t really read it properly) but there was an armed hold up in progress in my street when i left work today.
had to push my way through police tape and crowds of rubber necking idiots to get to the train station. i think it’s still ongoing, 25 cars and one helicopter later. all this just for one guy apparently.

been sick with a fairly bad cold this past week, which is the reason for the lack of any updates. when i did surface for a short time last week, i managed to somehow bully my way into print. (well, e-print)

well, it’s not quite right, but it’s getting there i guess. there are still some alignment issues that i need to sort out, as well as trying to fix the look of the single post and comment views. maybe a few other (hopefully) minor bits and pieces to tweak, but essentially, this is it.
i’m not sure how i’m going to go on the design front exactly. i did pick out some colours i thought were nice, but that’s about as far as i got.
you might notice though, over on the left hand side the latest thumbnail from the photoblog now appears, instead of just a link. neat eh?
