toss a coin?
i have a decision to make at work, and i don’t think it’s going to be an easy one. it’s a nice problem to have, because i have to decide between two new positions that have opened up for me.
one is working alongside our technical team, but still for the account management/operations team. it’s a technically focussed role surrounding mostly dns and related operations. much the same as i had been doing in melbourne before i left, but probably on a larger scale. the attractive part of this job for me is the opportunity to get involved in project management and development aspects of some of the systems we work with internally. that’s very appealing i think. the issue here is that it’s perhaps not as big a split from my current job as i’d like it to be.
the other option is to move full time into our web traffic services team. this is appealing because it’s webby and involves quite a bit of analytics, which is completely different to where i am now. i’m not entirely sure what the long term prospects are here though, which is a bit of a downside. i’ve spoken to the manager, but unfortunately he’s not really put a great deal of thought into this as yet, because he’s actually been here for less time than i have and has basically had to hit the ground running and do a great deal of delivery work right since day one. not a heap of time for management stuff.
so, i have to decide. which direction do i want to go in? earlier this morning i think i knew which direction i was leaning in, but now that i’ve had a chat to management in both areas new things have come up, as they are prone to do. either way, i have to make a decision in the next couple of days and let everyone know what i want to do.
like i said, it’s a good problem to have, but it’s still a problem.
sounds good. either one.
