it looks like the daily shooter may have been resurrected after a few months of hiatus. at the very least there’s a new post up detailing a processing technique as used by miles at mute.
i’m off to london this afternoon, and even though it’s officially a holiday i suspect i’ll end up in the office quite a bit. there are reasons why i don’t mind so much (it could turn out to be a very good career move) but i’m still hoping i don’t end up there too much. i’d like plenty of time to explore and i’m only there for a week.
hopefully i’ll come back with a few good photos to share, but if i end up in the office every day and on the sauce every night (as planned) i may not. i guess we’ll see how things turn out.
i’m not going to link the article that i read this in, because then i’d be propagating the stupidity. i admit that the significance of the traffic i won’t be generating for them isn’t that great, but it makes me feel better.
it was an article about men feeling the need to apparently add masculinity to the english language, because being nannies or nuses and wearing sandals evidently brings out our ‘castration anxieties’. the article comes with a nice glossary of, uhh, mannisms i suppose you could call them, most of which gave me a good laugh. but i ask you, honest to god, what in the holy shit is this crap?
Man bling: Jewelry that isn’t overly glitzy or feminine. In Ocean’s Twelve, Brad Pitt wore a silver pendant and cuff links from Tiffany’s.
so now i’m apparently being emasculated because i wear cuff links. so much so that people felt the need to not only invent a ridiculous term to counteract that but to also include within this piece of vernacular another wholly idiotic term, bling. sometimes i weep for the future of our language.
more links added under photography.
firstly what the heck journal and moodaholic, two guys in denmark who do awesome work.
secondly miles at mute. lots of great stuff here, but i’m particularly fond of his black and whites/duotones.
and last (but of course, not least) noushin. beautiful processing and colourations.
it looks like my problem below may have been firmware related. i’m still not exactly sure how, because the router hasn’t been automatically upgrading it’s firmware as it’s supposed to, but i’ve rolled all the way back to the initial version that it’s meant to have shipped with and things seem to be working better.
that’s a small win over the course of what’s been a pretty shit weekend.
i think my fucking wireless connection has pretty much had it. i’ve only had the damn thing since april.
i’m still not 100% sure it’s hardware, but i’m in the 90s somewhere. i’ve fiddled with just about everything and the symptoms seem the same no matter what i do, so it’s not looking like a network thing, and the access point seems to work fine on the ethernet ports. the wireless connection continues to be very flakey, when it’s working at all. at times it just seems to disappear completely from my network list despite only being a couple of feet away.
i hope it’s still under warranty or something.
edit: case in point, i’ve just had to try posting this three times before it worked and then had to revert back to the ethernet connection to view the site again. piece of shit.
editedit: i may have to retract that statement about the ethernet ports being fine. they’re not. better, but still not right. maybe the whole fucking thing is about to pack it in.
