the scene
music here, in general, is rubbish. witness the popularity of basshunter. there is however, if you go looking for it, quite a good and quirky local music scene. i thoroughly enjoyed the irish folk stylin’z of stamp’n go shanty a few weeks ago, and just over the last week or so i’ve come across a couple of other acts that i thought i might share.
firstly, detektivbyrÃ¥n. you can find them on myspace here and have a listen to a couple of the tracks off their ep. i’m fond of e18 and dansbanan, both of which you can download from their official website, http://www.detektivbyran.net/ . i’m not exactly sure how to describe these guys. the closest i could get might be to compare them with lemon jelly, but without all the sampling. it’s kind of folk electronica, and it’s very listenable.
secondly, found because they recorded their latest work at the same studio as detektivbyrÃ¥n, is winding stairs. again, myspace here, complete with three tracks to listen to, and you can also download a couple from their website, although the tracks there seem to be incorrectly labelled. winding stairs combine some very pretty indie vocals and piano with slightly breaky drums and bass. funky and sweet. the track on their website labelled (incorrectly) ‘can’t see that far’ is my favourite out of these.
so it’s not all awful pop, schlager or the usual troupe of idol rejects. infact it’s quite a pleasant surprise when acts like this come to my attention, seemingly out of nowhere. reminds me of why i’m interested in music in the first place.
