It's not exactly Snowy River Country, but every time I look at this photo that passage from one of Australia's most iconic pieces of writing comes to mind:

And down by Kosciusko, where the pine-clad ridges raise
Their torn and rugged battlements on high,
Where the air is clear as crystal, and the white stars fairly blaze
At midnight in the cold and frosty sky..

No pines here, but up in the New England Tablelands the air is clear as crystal, and the white stars do shine all the more brightly under a clear sky. The heavens feel very close up there and the changing scenery as you drive from the green of the coast to the red earth and yellow grasses further inland is very special. It's called the Waterfall Way and if you're ever in the area, I suggest you give it a drive.
